DAY 1<\/span><\/p>\n 9.00am – Your departure meeting point is our landing stage at St Jean du Maroni where you will board a motorized pirogue and cast off to explore the Maroni River.<\/p>\n This river tour will first take you to the \u201cIle Portal\u201d river island; then to the Amerindian village of Biguiston and its polishing stones. Later stops will include a number of other Maroon and Amerindian villages where you can discover crafts and local workshops (pirogue building, \u201ccouac\u201d flour preparation from cassava roots; peanut shelling and sorting, etc.).<\/p>\n 12.00am \u2013 Coasting past the former \u201cForesti\u00e8re\u201d penal colony before landing again for a visit to Apatou, the capital of Tembe art. \n01.00pm \u2013 Thrill as your pirogue navigates the Saut Hermine rapids\u2014right before your lunch stop and leisure time for swimming.
\n02.30pm \u2013 Back on the river for further adventures exploring the \u201cCrique Sparwin\u201d creek
\n04.00pm \u2013 Choice of an adequate spot to strike camp and sling the hammocks. Then more leisure time for swimming before your campsite dinner and a restful night (hammocks and mosquito nets supplied).<\/p>\n
\n09.00 am \u2013 Back on pirogue to motor farther up the Sparwin creek and discover its lush flora and fauna. This will be followed by a forest trek before we return to St Jean du Maroni (with a lunch break en route)
