EXPLORING THE MARONI RIVER – 2 DAYS

Votre programme

DAY 1

9.00am – Your departure meeting point is our landing stage at St Jean du Maroni where you will board a motorized pirogue and cast off to explore the Maroni River.

This river tour will first take you to the “Ile Portal” river island; then to the Amerindian village of Biguiston and its polishing stones. Later stops will include a number of other Maroon and Amerindian villages where you can discover crafts and local workshops (pirogue building, “couac” flour preparation from cassava roots; peanut shelling and sorting, etc.).

12.00am – Coasting past the former “Forestière” penal colony before landing again for a visit to Apatou, the capital of Tembe art.
01.00pm – Thrill as your pirogue navigates the Saut Hermine rapids—right before your lunch stop and leisure time for swimming.
02.30pm – Back on the river for further adventures exploring the “Crique Sparwin” creek
04.00pm – Choice of an adequate spot to strike camp and sling the hammocks. Then more leisure time for swimming before your campsite dinner and a restful night (hammocks and mosquito nets supplied).

DAY 2

07.30am – Campsite breakfast before cleaning up and breaking camp.
09.00 am – Back on pirogue to motor farther up the Sparwin creek and discover its lush flora and fauna. This will be followed by a forest trek before we return to St Jean du Maroni (with a lunch break en route)
05.00pm – Back at St Jean du Maroni.
